Visually Impaired Aware
This experience combines unique activities with stories or discussions about everyday life, Braille, and the use of other senses to provide vital information about the world around us.
Only a very small percentage of people who are registered blind cannot see anything at all!

White Cane Trail
...our special white goggles block the children’s vision, ensuring they are unable to see without removing all light from their eyes. They have to negotiate our obstacle course using only a white cane! (which is also the international symbol for blindness)

See through the eyes...
We have multiple pairs of special glasses made from a safe light plastic which enable the children to see through the eyes of people with visual impairments. There are 5 different types to represent different forms of disease which effect vision.

Identifying objects
We have created six special boxes which represent the difficulties people with visual impairments face whilst trying to identify objects...

·      See inside the boxes –These three contain multiple items from around the home and have been ‘blurred’ through our special plastic window pane. The challenge is to try and make out what the items actually are and discuss as a group before they are revealed.

 ·      Feel inside the boxes - These three special boxes allow just a hand to be placed inside without seeing. Items are again revealed following a discussion about the feel of different materials and how this is used around the home.

Visit from a training guide dog puppy

In most instances we can also arrange for a visit from a guide dog puppy and trainer on the day of the experience to further complement the children’s experience and understanding of visual impairment.
